Over the past few weeks I have been mulling over the idea of doing travel related blog posts on Australia. In my short time as an Aussie resident, I have found that people who’ve never been here actually have no idea how beautiful Australia really is.
Before I moved to Aus I have to admit that it wasn’t a destination I was dying to see. I honestly never had much of an inclination to visit. When I thought Australia, I thought Outback…desert, sand…kangaroo’s…deadliest creatures!!! (Because if we’re being honest everyone ALWAYS associates Aus with all the things that can kill you! Snakes, spiders, jellyfish…and the list goes on! haha) And that pretty much summed it up for me too. I’m not proud of my preconceived take, but it is what it is! :p
Since touching down in Sydney 18 months ago, I have consistently been pleasantly surprised by the varying landscapes and beauty that is Australia. We’ve been making a concerted effort to explore and find new places to see within our surrounds and we’ve yet to be disappointed.
Firstly you need to know that Australia is HUGE and we have by no means even scratched the surface of all the amazing places out there. But we’ve STARTED and have already seen so many beautiful places just in Sydney and its surrounds that I can’t wait to explore further and see more of its beauty. Far too often we don’t give a place a chance because we have preconceived ideas of what it’s like.
Travelling Thursday
This is what has prompted my Travelling Thursday blog posts. I have seen first hand the diversity and beauty here in Aus and I want to share it with you. Perhaps change your preconceived ideas of what you thought Aus was like and possibly even tempt you to visit and see it for yourself.
I am hoping that these blog posts will change the minds of anyone who ever thought that Australia was flat, dry and not very interesting!!
Montville
I’m kicking off the series with pictures from our recent trip to visit friends in Queensland. I’ve found that touring places with locals is the best way to find the hidden gems. Montville was no exception. Walking round this quaint little town had me feeling like I’d been transported back in time. It was a real feast for the eyes. This little town is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. I couldn’t get enough of all the beautiful shops and café’s. I really could’ve strolled around there for hours.
Fun Facts
Originally called Razorback, it was renamed Montville at a community meeting in the early 1900’s.
It’s becoming popular as a destination wedding venue due to its many restaurants, wineries and B&B’s.
Originally a logging town and then predominantly farming. It’s now more famous for its parks, walks and beautiful views of the Sunshine Coast.
Nestled along the Blackall Mountain range in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland a mere 400m above sea level. The last census has the town population at 886.
