This past Sunday I had the privilege of capturing Anna and Kevin saying I do after a 2 year engagement. They originally planned to have a big, beautiful wedding in Japan surrounded by friends and family. But believe it or not, Covid restrictions are still a very real thing and they weren’t able to make it happen. Not wanting to delay their marriage inevitably, they decided to have a beautiful intimate wedding with Kevin’s family at the gorgeous Spicers Sangoma Retreat at Bowen Mountain.
Intimate Wedding
Whilst covid has caused so many disruptions and made it difficult for many families to celebrate these happy occasions as we used to, it has also forced us to find ways to stay connected. And in this instance it was a live-stream of their ceremony with all the loved ones who couldn’t be there in person. It was bittersweet for Anna to not have her family there in person, but it was such a joy for them to see it all unfolding live. There were tears from the moment Anna stepped into the aisle to make her way to her groom. The beautiful ceremony was officiated in English and Japanese and Kevin pulled out all the stops by reciting a portion of his vows to his lovely bride in Spanish. Which he promised to translate for her later!!
The Joy of Technology
Technology really is wonderful in situations like these! And after the ceremony, the happy couple took the time to chat with their online guests and have a small virtual celebration. Which was serendipitous for us because as they started the virtual party, the heavens opened and we were forced to wait out the rain. Which in turn meant that there was absolutely no pressure for the happy couple (or me 😋) to worry about missing out on good portrait light… hahaha. It also meant that we were lucky enough to capture a rainbow in their portraits. Now if that isn’t a perfect end to couple’s portraits, I don’t know what is.
There were only 8 guests at Anna and Kevin’s wedding. Making it one of the smallest micro wedding’s I’ve photographed to date. And I think I might have fallen in love with these small celebrations. Anna and Kevin reached out to me a little over a month before their big day enquiring about my availability. Unfortunately for them (not so unfortunate for me 😉) their original photographer turned out to be completely unreliable. So instead of potentially dealing with issues after their big day, they decided to look for someone new…and that’s when they found me! 🎉
Anna and Kevin – it was such an honour to play a small part in your very big day! I am forever grateful that your first photographer let you down so that I was able to step up to the plate and capture the magic of your day. Enjoy this preview of your day as seen through my eyes! I can’t wait to share your full gallery with you.
