The Kriel Family Photoshoot at Fagan Park

I love meeting new people! And meeting new families to shoot, hands down is one of my favourite things to do on a weekday afternoon! Especially at Fagan Park.

Meeting Fran and Braam Kriel and their boys Waldo and Eckhardt was like meeting old friends!!🤩  Originally from South Africa, this lovely family has called Sydney home for the past 18 months and are slowly finding their new normal. Fran and Braam have been so dedicated in their pursuit of documenting their family memories and have made a conscious effort to have family pictures taken every year!! Because of their tireless dedication to the family memory cause, they are all so well versed in posing and smiling that they made my job SO easy! It was the first year that I have been the fortunate photographer to have this fun bunch in front of my lens and I’m really hoping it won’t be the last as they were an absolute dream to photograph!

 

Moms and Their Boys

As a fellow mom of teenage boys, Fran and I connected as only moms of teenage boys can! We might not have daughters that we can go shopping or share clothes with, but we have these special boys that are a constant source of entertainment, laughter and have contributed to more than a few of our grey hairs!! hahaha. 😆 Witnessing the special bond that Fran has with her boys, reminded me how blessed we are to have these amazing young men to steer towards adulthood. It’s a tough job and a little daunting at times, but boy is it amazing when you see the wonderful young men they are becoming!!

 

I loved prompting Fran’s boys to give their mom a BIG hug and squeeze her tight – this is something my boys love to do to me and inevitably I end up off the ground and with the breath squished out of me! I can think of no better way to prompt natural smiles and a real sense of fun into a photoshoot.

Essentially you want your pictures to reflect the relationships you have with your family and the memories you’re making along the way. It’s not only about the posed images!!! And I loved that even though Eckhardt isn’t quite as tall as his mom yet – he too lifted her clean off the ground and squished the life out of her!!! 😆🤩

Take Time for Mom and Dad

The Kriel family are no strangers to family photos. And this family seriously brought their A-Game to the shoot! I hardly had to direct them or ask them to do anything more than once. They are complete naturals in front of the camera! I always use a few different locations as well as various groupings during a shoot to be sure I give my families a lot of variety in their galleries, and I love nothing more than to capture a few special images for mom and dad.

Once our kids arrive all our pictures tend to focus on them, and we rarely jump in front of the lens. While this isn’t the case for Braam and Fran (who absolutely killed it for their couple shots 🤩) it does ring true for a lot of families I meet. So I really love taking a bit of time to take pictures of the 2 special people who started this crazy journey together!!

I couldn’t get enough of this awesome family and their images really reflect their relaxed, fun approach to life! Meeting Fran was like meeting an old friend. And in quick text message exchange after our session, Fran expressed the same sentiment! I love that my clients enjoy their experience and leave a shoot feeling like old friends.
