Meeting Sheri and taking a few business headshots for her in Bowral, was a surreal experience. With all the restrictions of the global pandemic, I have been dying to get out and have people in front of my camera again. So this very first post-Covid photoshoot was an event to be celebrated.
I came across Sheri purely by chance. Via an Instagram ad for a Workshop she was running at the end of last year. Over the past few months we’ve traded DM’s, I signed up for her April wedding workshop – which had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions (bring on October), but we’d never actually met. That is, until I booked Sheri for a full branding session for my business.
A branding Session is worth the investment.
As I mentioned in last weeks post, I know how important branding is for a small business. And while I had a few headshots done last year, I was looking for something more complete that really spoke to my brand vision. I love Sheri’s work and I knew that she’d be able to capture exactly what I wanted. I value good images for my business. Just as I believe my clients are making a good decision by investing in a shoot with me. The investment in a full branding shoot with Sheri was an easy decision to make.
Trusting your photographer with your vision.
Photographer’s are probably the worst possible models. Mainly because we feel so much more comfortable behind the camera. But, as my photographer friend Erin articulated so well last week, it’s also because we want to be both in front AND behind the camera at the same time. We know how to make our clients feel comfortable and how to bring out the best in them to get great images.
So when we’re in front of the camera, we have to give that control to someone else…and it’s HARD! It’s hard because we have to step back from driving the process and being in charge of capturing the vision, to allowing someone else to take the reins and bring the vision to life. And I have no doubt that Sheri did just that. From start to finish our session was relaxed, fun and most importantly exactly what I’d imagined it to be. Sheri understood what I needed and she worked tirelessly to capture what I had in mind.
Impromptu Business Headshots
There’s that old saying along the lines of people in a certain profession look after everyone else’s business and neglect their own – for example: accountants who do everyone else’s taxes and don’t have time for their own, or seamstresses who make clothes for everyone else, but not for themselves. Well photographers have that problem too, but not for lack of trying. It’s normally for lack of having someone we trust enough, to be patient enough, to get the right shot. haha
I have a wonderful family, but they do not have my patience when it comes to taking a good picture. Sheri has the same problem!! During my session she mentioned more than once that she’d also love a few images in the gorgeous cottage..So once my session was finished I told Sheri that we needed to take full advantage of the fact that she had a willing photographer and a gorgeous setting and offered to take a few images of her.
Our off the cuff impromptu shoot to give Sheri a few updated business headshots was a huge success and I love the natural, relaxed feel of her images.
Investing in images for your business is always a great idea. I’d love to chat to you about bringing your business branding vision to life. Let’s get in touch!
Until next week

Wow mandy. These are sublime. The whole atmosphere is so calming and serene. This goes with Sheris look which certainly feels gentle and maybe mischievous:)
So right about friends and having not having your patience. So true in all fields. Family are the last to do what we expect hence what we expect very little and are thrilled with almost anything..hahah. great shoot mandy and Sheri.
Thank you so much, I am so glad that you enjoyed the post. And what you said about family and friends is so true – hahaha – we really do learn to expect very little! Well in my case – especially when it comes to asking them to take a decent picture of me! haha. Thanks so much for stopping by.
