My 5 favourite things blog header imageNew Things Coming

We’re still in the midst of the school holidays this side and I find that last week passed in such a blur of activity that this week caught me a little by surprise. I have been working furiously on an update for the Sugar Tree digital home and I can’t wait to share it with you…be sure to watch this space for the exciting reveal SOON!

5 Favourite Things

So given the fact that I was caught completely unaware unprepared – because really how unaware could I be…I have been doing this consistently now for the last 6 months!!! hahaha. I decided this week I’d do a short fun post on 5 of my favourite things. I could do the usual 5 things that you might already know, but I wanted to make it a little more fun so you could get to know me beyond just the usual stuff. You’ll have to comment below to let me know if you already knew any of these things about me.

Winnie The Pooh

You could call me a little obsessed. I don’t know where my love for the little bear came from, but it sure runs deep. Winnie and friends were the theme for Ethan’s nursery, complete with a hand painted quilt and homemade honey bee curtains. If I see cool sweatshirts, t-shirts or PJ’s sporting my favourite bear, you can believe I will be adding them to my collection. ๐Ÿ™‚

Playing the Piano.

Ever since I was about 12 years old I wanted to play the piano. We never had one and I got a small little Casio keyboard with the lights that showed you which keys to play (do you remember those??) and I played it EVERY.DAY!! About 6 months after I got married I spotted an ad in the local paper for music lessons for adults and I called!! Which lead to 10 years of lessons (in between having 2 kids ).ย  Thursday mornings were my favourite day of the week – piano day!!

My amazing music teacher – Nickie Lewis-Enright of La Musique Music School, deserves a medal for teaching me. I have zero natural talent and it takes me forever to get the songs. But my piano is my happy place and I can sit and play for hours – normally practicing the same song over and over…hahaha. I don’t play for people – I get the worst stage fright, I play for me just because it makes my heart happy. From my humble beginnings with the little Casio keyboard, I graduated to a beautiful refurbished baby grand piano. It was definietly worth the wait.

Salted Caramel Anything

This was a totally unexpected favourite!! I had never even tasted salted caramel until my trip to Switzerland in 2017. My friends Michelle and Daniele introduced me to Salted Caramel chocolate and I have been hooked ever since. What started as merely salted caramel chocolate has now expanded to Magnum salted caramel and macadamia ice cream…….(heaven on a stick ;p ), salted caramel latte’s and just yesterday, I spotted salted caramel and dark chocolate chip cookies in the grocery store! That will definitely be next on my list of salted caramel goodness to try!

Stationery

Give me all the pens and pretty papers. I’m a sucker for pretty notebooks, pens in every colour. Even pencils. I’m not fussy. If it’s stationery and it’s pretty – I want it. I have a whole collection of notebooks right next to my desk because I love to be able to write things down. I always have pens and scraps of paper lying on my desk, just incase…you never know when you might need a pretty pen!

Thunderstorms

I absolutely LOVE a good thunderstorm. Back home in South Africa we had what is known as “Highveld Thunderstorms”. These thunderstorms almost always happened in the afternoon and they were good solid storms. You could see the thunderheads rolling in – the sky would get beautifully dark with thick puffy clouds. You could hear the thunder rumbling across the sky and see the flashes of lightning in the clouds….and then the rain would just fall. Beautiful, drenching rain. Sometimes it would be unrelenting and other times it would be a quick drenching and the skies would clear. Those kind of storms find your soul and they stir something deep within you. Wow…how I miss those storms. This is the best photo of the clouds that I could find, but it doesn’t show them as dark as they really can be (please excuse the mobile picture!!), but it’s a great example of what they usually looked liked – just imagine them darker!! hahaha

Thanks so much for stopping by. I’d love to hear what a few of your favourite things are!!

Until next time… x

  2. Brooke says:

I am definitely a huge fan of thunderstorms too! We got to watch some of the storms over the water from Hurricane Barry in the gulf this weekend & it was so awesome to watch!! I’m also a sucker for pretty stationary, especially with Paper Mate Flair pens! And as far as the salted caramel… if you can get the little Sander dark chocolate sea salt caramels – PLEASE don’t try one. You’ll be hooked instantly!

    • Mandy Provan says:

Ah That’s so cool- we heard all about Barry!! I remember actually watching a huge storm over the ocean in 2006 right after the Tsunami hit Thailand. It was a MASSIVE storm. It was one of the times I wasn’t all THAT excited to have a storm about! haha. So glad to find a fellow Stationery and salted caramel fan!!! I haven’t spotted the Salted caramels you referred to – but I am definietly going to be keeping my eyes open for them now!!

I have to agree with you Kayla. These actually aren’t in a planner. They’re gorgeous little pastel journals and a sticker book from Target! They were such a dream find. I was like a kid at Christmas.

Iโ€™ve ALWAYS wanted to learn piano. I donโ€™t have natural music ability either but would love to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing your story!

You should do it!! You’re never too old to learn. I’ve never regretted learning how to play. It’s been such a huge source of joy for me.
