Wentworth Falls Travelling Thursday Blog Header Image

I wanted to visit Wentworth Falls before I ever arrived in Australia. As you might know (or not :p) my family arrived in Sydney 7 weeks before I did. Being in a new place begs for you to discover it andĀ  Ā and went exploring on the weekends. Their very first trip was out to Wentworth Falls. They sent me so many beautiful photos of their day out and all I have wanted to do since then was see it for myself.

Wentworth Falls

Wentworth Falls is a lovely little town in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. A one hour train trip from Sydney’s North West. The Sunday travel concessions make it so easy to travel in and around Sydney with all the fares being capped at $2.60. With such affordable rates there really is no excuse to get out and explore the great outdoors.

An Easy Hike

Our sole purpose in going to Wentworth Falls ( apart from me not wanting to be the only one who hadn’t! ;P ) was to hike down to the falls. We came prepared for a hike that would take us pretty much the whole day and were pleasantly surprised when we realised that all our walking and weekend exploring meant that we were far fitter than initially anticipated and out entire hike took a little over 3 hours. Including photo breaks!! hahaha.

The falls themselves are broken into 3 sections. You cross the top of the falls to start the hike on the national passĀ  after which you descendĀ  few flights of rather treacherously steep steps to the mid section of the falls.Ā  The distance straight over the falls between these 2 sections is about 100m’s. When you’re walking down the steps, holding onto ALL the railings…hahahahaa… it feels a lot higher than 100ms. But once you arrive the view of the falls and the valley beyond is so worthwhile.

The last part of the hike requires climbing up and down chain ladders and while the steps were doable, I wasn’t sure I had the courage to descend chain ladders to get to the bottom. It wasn’t really the thought of going down so much as having to climb back UP the chain ladders that had me calling the md view the perfect place to turn around and head on back.

Scenic Town

The walk to the falls from the station is so pretty. Filled with tree lined streets and beautiful homes.Ā  The wrap around porches ensure are perfect for morning coffees or afternoon chats as the occupants enjoy the explosion of colour in the gardens with the arrival of spring. These little towns never cease to amaze me with their character and charm and are definitely worth the trip!

I hope you enjoy a few of the images from our trip.
