The day Michelle called me to schedule Duncan’s matric farewell session is still so clear in my mind. Michelle and I were in matric together and we can both still remember OUR own matric farewell and here we were talking about her son’s matric dance!!!! – when did we get old enough to have children who were now in matric or almost there?? Being a parent really opens your eyes to the passage of time and how quickly it flies by. It also offers up the opportunity to be involved in a whole new generation of teenage angst and wardrobe dilemma’s!!! Being a boy mom is by no means any less stressful than being a girl mom when it comes to the planning and decision making surrounding outfits, shoes, socks…I’m almost willing to bet that boys can actually be far more picky than some girls and spend far more time selecting even the smallest details. :p
Duncan and his friends were so excited and couldn’t wait to get their pictures done so they could get the night under way….and what would a matric farewell be without a beautiful baby sister dressed up as a princess to cheer on her hero big brother! Family – first and foremost – is the glue that cements all these special occasions together and make them that much sweeter.
I LOVE being involved in the special moments of friends and being able to capture these memories for them to look back on for years to come. Michelle and Greg – congratulations on the amazing young man you have raised!! As Duncan prepares to spread his wings and take his first steps into the great big world beyond school, I pray that these images always bring a smile to your face as they remind you of how far he’s come since that long ago grade 1 day and how great the journey is going to be going forward!!
